Choose an approved connection
The portal’s included email service is already ready to use. Configure Google Workspace only when messages must come through your organization’s Google environment. Google no longer permits legacy “less secure app” sign-in with a normal account password.
- SMTP relay is the preferred option for an organization-managed application when your Workspace edition and policy allow it.
- A dedicated mailbox with 2-Step Verification and an app password can be used only when the Workspace administrator permits app passwords.
- A Google Cloud OAuth client ID or client secret cannot be pasted into the password field. OAuth mail delivery requires a separate consent connection and is not enabled on this page.
Option A: Google Workspace SMTP relay
- In the Google Admin console, open Apps, Google Workspace, Gmail, Routing, then SMTP relay service.
- Limit allowed senders to addresses in your domains and require TLS.
- Choose the authentication method approved by your administrator. If the relay uses source IP authentication, contact DMTG Tech for the current outbound mail addresses before adding them.
- In Custom email settings, enter smtp-relay.gmail.com, port 587, and STARTTLS. Leave username and password blank only when the approved relay uses source IP authentication.
- Use a From address permitted by the relay, save the connection, and send a test before turning custom email on.
Option B: dedicated mailbox and app password
- Use a dedicated sender mailbox rather than a person’s everyday account.
- Enable 2-Step Verification and create an app password if the administrator permits it.
- Enter smtp.gmail.com, port 587, STARTTLS, the full mailbox address, and the app password.
- Do not enter the mailbox’s normal password. Save, test, and review the received From address before activation.
